Arrests made in Hollywood murder

Councilmember Tom LaBonge comforts Octavia Smith, whose son was murdered at a Hollywood party last month
LAPD Hollywood Detectives announced multiple arrests in the April 17th Hollywood murder of 22-year old Lorenzo Smith. Police say they have all but one suspect -- all known gang-members -- in custody in connection with the incident at a party in the 1600 block of North La Brea Avenue, during which multiple suspects drew several guns and fired numerous times. The gunfire killed Lorenzo Smith and seriously wounded another. Smith's mother, Octavia Smith, thanked police for their diligent work in bringing her son's alleged killers to justice.
NOHO getting a new theater complex
We're pleased to report that San Fernando Valley movie-lovers will have a new option before the end of the year. Construction is underway on the long-awaited Laemmle 7-Plex on Lankershim Boulevard in the NoHo Arts District, next to the Television Academy and Phil's Diner (dinner and a movie). The builders say they hope to be finished by Thanksgiving.
