Agenda
Debrief on December 12, 2009 Holiday Celebration Event
New Business:
Vivian Sampson Communications Committee Chair; A discussion/proposal on our possibly participating in funding the 10th Annual Valley Wide Student Arts Show and Family Arts Festival event as an art outreach event (Information on next page). Committee agreed to request funding for a 1/8-page ad costing $250. Sample wording: MTNHNC logo. Congratulations! Maurice Sendak School
1. What worked? Everything seemed to be done very well. Most everything worked. Alfred and his staff proved to be a great asset to our team.
2. What didn’t work? Ran out of books early. But overall everything worked.
3. How can we make it better?
a. Bilingual hosts at the front door (possibly in costume) to give directions, hand out flyers, etc.
b. Sponsors for more books. Start early
c. Entertainment – get a brass band. Robin has done a great job. Willing to take it on next year.
d. Strategy list – check off things as we go; delegate more; even out the workload.
e. Partnership with other organizations (i.e. Hands for Hope) and park staff early.
f. Consider bus with sponsorship. Get corporate sponsors whose names could be on banners on the bus
g. Participation – recruit other MTNHNC Board Members to participate
May meeting we will start planning, looking for sponsors. Examples: Denny’s, Honda, CVS, Target, Sears, etc.
Other Business:
TV Walk of Fame – presented by Paul. It was suggested that he write a letter to present to CRA expressing that we want such a walk in our neighborhood. Invite Gazala Pirzada to our next meeting to let us know about the theater and other plans for our area. ACTION: Mary G. to invite her
Laemmle Theaters – Also talk with Gazala Pirzada about this when she is here.
Community Arts Festival- discussion on past festivals and how wonderful to have them again, but money and leadership in the right areas doesn’t seem to be in place.
Next meeting March 2nd 2010

Thanks for taking the time to talk with me today about the possibility of the North Hollywood Neighborhood Council purchasing an ad for our commemorative ad book/program for the Tenth Annual Valley Wide Student Art Show and Family Arts Festival that will take place on March 21 at the Chatsworth Train Depot. Over 600 kids from throughout the Valley will be featured in both the visual art exhibition and the performing arts showcase. We are going to all of the neighborhood councils who have schools in their districts to ask for their support in helping us with the costs of producing the show. North Hollywood will be represented by a star school, the Maurice Sendak School, as we have been providing this school with a full arts program since it first opened. This year, we started a new band (with a grant for instruments from the Water Buffalo Club). They already have a violin orchestra and both groups will be performing at noon. Sendak will also be featured in the visual art exhibition.
The cost of the ad is as follows:
$2000 for a full page and $1000 for a half page
(if you opt for either a half or full page we will also give you a booth so you can promote your neighborhood council, as well as offer you space in our grab bags that will go to the people who attend, if you have any literature or promotional items that you would like to give away)
$500 for 1/4 page and $250 for 1/8 page
You can give me the copy and we will create the ad, if you like. We would like it by February 12 to give us plenty of time to put everything together. You can say whatever you like in the ad, but it would be great if you created some sort of message for the Maurice Sendak School and anything else that you would like to say about supporting the arts and/or arts education.
